Last weekend we took a weekend off and headed down to Newport, Oregon to meet a gentlemen that was selling a bunch of donut mix. We left at 4:45am. Everyone thought we were crazy but when you are traveling with a two year old you do things like that. We ended up getting to Newport around 11:00am. We immediately went to the beach. I forgot how nice the beaches are on the coast. The sand is so fluffy and nice. Vann didn't quit know what to think. He doesn't like sand very much. He kept stopping to get sand out of his shoes. When we finished playing around on the beach we went to a fun little restaurant called Flashbacks. It is made to look like a 50s style diner.
When we finished with lunch we headed down to downtown Newport. That was a lot of fun. There were sea lions just hanging out on the dock. We then had to leave to go meet the guy that had the donut mix. Once we finished taking care of business we decided to go to the Oregon Coast Aquarium. Vann couldn't wait, he was yelling. "fish, fish, fish" the entire time we were in line to pay. Vann had so much fun. I love to see him so excited.
After spending the night in Newport we got up and headed toward Seaside. We stopped a lot on the way up. We stopped at the Tillamock farmer's market, air museum, and the cheese factory. We had fun at all of our stops. Vann got some fresh raspberries from the farmer's market. Those are his favorite. He enjoyed looking at all of the old airplanes and siting in some that they had disassembled. At the cheese factory he went crazy considering cheese is one of his favorite foods.
We finally made it to Seaside after getting stuck in traffic. We drove a round for a good 20 min. just to find a parking spot. We then got lucky and found one on our second drive around. We then walked around town and checked out some of the stores. It finally was time that we could go check into our hotel. We went and got settled and then went to asked the locals what they recommend for dinner. We ended up at this little restaurant that had been featured in several magazines. Tony is now hooked one salmon and chips. After dinner we took Vann to another aquarium and that was down by the water. Vann got to feed the seals and I ended up getting wet because they splashed us to tell us they wanted more food.
After walking around town again we went back to the hotel to go swimming. Vann loves the water I think he should have been a fish. We had a lot of fun and I hope to possibly come back someday when we have more time.

Vann's First Dentist Appointment

Vann had his first dentist appointment today. He did pretty good. As soon as we got into the room Vann started to freak out. I sat in the dentist chair and Vann sat on my lap. He started to calm down and then the dentist came in. I don't know what Vann was thinking but he would not let the dentist near him. Pretty much the entire appointment was just the dentist and I talking about brushing Vann's teeth, how many he had, spacing, and fluoride. The appointment didn't last that long but Vann did start to warm up and did let the dentist look in his mouth for a second. When I told Vann that we were all done he gave the dentist a half smile. I would love to know what he was thinking.

Here we are in the waiting room.

Lawn Mower Races

Tony took Vann up to his parent's house on Saturday so that they could go watch lawn mower races in Port Hadlock. I had to work at the Poulsbo Farmer's Market so I met up with them later that day. Vann enjoyed watching the races except it was really hot and dusty. They only stayed for a few races and then decided to call it a day. Plus Vann needed a nap really bad. Unfortunatly he didn't end up taking a nap until I got up there sometime after 3:00pm. I hate when he takes a late nap then he doesn't go to bed until late. Once he woke up from his nap and we had an awsome dinner(crab and halibut lasagna), we went for a walk down on the beach. I love walking the beach and looking for beach glass and other treasures. When we got back to the house the guys decided to play horse shoes. I told Sue that we should play too. We took two turns and decided that game was not for us. I made it into the pit once and Sue didn't even come close. We decided to go play bean bag toss. That was much more our speed. After games we went inside for dessert and called it an evening.

4th of July

We headed up to Tony's parents house in Port Hadlock on Friday July 3rd, to spend the day with some of his family that had came into town. Almost all of his family from Utah came up to celebrate the 4th. I hadn't met a lot of the family so it was really nice to meet everyone and see all of the family that we don't get to see very often. Unfortunately Tony and I had a event that we had to work at on the 4th so we were unable to enjoy the day with everyone. Sue, Tony's mom came down from their house that morning before our event to picked up Vann so that he could play with all of his cousins. I was very thankful for that considering Tony and I were busy all day and I don't know how we would have done our event with Vann there. As soon as our event was over we hurried to get up there so that we could relax and visit with everyone. We made it up there just in time for dinner. Vann was excited to see us. That was the longest that I have ever left him. It felt kind of wired not having him with us but I know he had a lot more fun with everyone else.
Later that night we all headed down to the beach to light off fire works. The two neighbors next to us both had very extravagant firework displays. It was fun to watch them. Vann really likes to watch fireworks but unfortunately Vann wanted to be where Tony was and Tony was the one lighting off all of the fireworks. I didn't want him anywhere near them. Vann and I ended up having to leave and go up to the house to go to bed. He was really tired and fell asleep as soon as we layed down.
The next day we all got up and had homemade waffles for brekfast. Later that day we all headed out to Fort Flaggler for the day. Vann went with Tony in Tim's boat. It was his first boat ride. He must of enjoyed it because when they all met up with us at Fort Flagger Vann was asleep. He slept the entire time we were at the beach. It was nice and peaceful for me but I wish he could have played on the beach with all of the other kids.
After a few hours having fun on the beach we said goodbye to everyone and headed for home. What an exhausting weekened, but FUN!
